Matters of The Heart

“What if I told you I am falling in love with you Galen?”

Galen props up his elbow and rests his head on his hand. He looks at Miranda who made a pillow out of some clothing and smiles. She still has that dreamy look on her face, only now she is glowing.

“What if I’ve fallen in love with you as well? Many would argue the sincerity behind making such a profound statement to someone they just met.”

“It doesn’t make any sense,” she concludes.

He touches her face and kisses her. “Love is as irrational as murder.”

“This has never happened to me before, to feel so much in such little time.” Her voice trails off for a moment and then she says, “Are we dreaming?”

Galen gets to his feet and raises his hands up to the sky. “If this is a dream then please don’t ever wake me.” He starts twirling around and Miranda joins him. Together they dance and spin around like children. Galen takes her hand and they walk back to the spot overlooking the city.

“Miranda, before, when I would look out into a sleeping city like this one, it only saddened me because I didn’t have anyone to share it with. Now, with you, all I see is endless beauty and possibilities. After meeting you tonight and feeling the way that I do, I’m trying not to make sense of what grows in the heart. He again raises his hands up in the air and loudly says, “Magic doesn’t require a definition.”

Galen kisses her and excitedly says, “Come, we must celebrate!”

Mystified, Miranda asks, “What are we celebrating?”

“The promise of darkness, my love. The darkness that will be our first night together.”
